Sharon - Associate
I’ve had several high points during my eight years with the practice, but my recent promotion to associate is the most significant. I joined Accru in 2001 as an intermediate accountant and a few months later commenced studying towards my Bachelor of Business degree through distance learning.
In 2002 I began assisting with the preparation of US tax returns and in 2005 was seconded to a firm in San Francisco for two months for further training. I was promoted to business services manager in 2006, and later in the year, presented with the award for Northern Region Accounting Technician of the Year by the New Zealand Institute of Chartered Accountants.
Promotion to associate has given me a great feeling of accomplishment. Working towards becoming a chartered accountant and a partner is like climbing up a ladder. There are so many rungs to climb and when you’ve achieved all the requirements, you’ve met your goals – and it is well worth it. Throughout the eight years I have had continued support from the partners of Accru and colleagues. There were times when I needed flexibility around my working hours, study leave and exam leave and this was never an issue.
I enjoy working with such a group of highly knowledgeable and experienced people. We also have a diverse and dynamic culture which makes coming to work interesting and challenging!
