Hazel - Audit Supervisor
I joined Accru straight after I graduated in April 2004. Since then, I’ve completed my CA with the firm’s support. The firm provided financial support and mentoring which greatly assisted me especially when tackling topics which I didn’t specialize in.
The high point of my time with Accru so far has been the ten weeks I spent on secondment, in early 2008, with a chartered accounting firm in Rhode Island, USA. This secondment was made possible thorough Accru’s affiliation with the CPA Associates Inc. I was initially nervous about leaving my family and friends for three months but didn’t want to turn down such a great opportunity.
Whilst in the USA I was given the opportunity to work on a variety of audit clients where I was able to gain knowledge on various industries which I had not previous been involved in. I was also able to assist in the completion of financial statements and tax returns. I was able to experience different processes and gained a great understanding of international accounting standards. The knowledge that I gained in the USA has enabled me to complete audits efficiently and effectively. I made many friends during my secondment which I have kept in touch with and hopefully I will be able to return to catch up with them all. I thoroughly enjoyed my time in the US and found the experience invaluable.
I was promoted to Supervisor mid 2008 and I’m enjoying the opportunity to lead and mentor other staff in the audit division.
